National Security Adviser John Bolton on Monday lashed out at the Iranian regime during its 40th anniversary of the Islamic Republic, lambasting the Ayatollahs for “40 years of failure,” and predicting: “I don’t think you’ll have many more to enjoy.”
In an official White House Twitter video post, Bolton taunted Sayyid Ali Hosseini Khamenei, the current Supreme Leader of Iran.
“Iran under the Ayatollahs remains the central bank of international terrorism,” Bolton declared in the video.
“So, Ayatollah Khamenei, for all your boasts, for all your threats to the life of the American president, you are responsible for terrorizing your own people, and terrorizing the world as a whole. I don’t think you’ll have many more anniversaries to enjoy.”
On his own Twitter feed, Bolton amplified the attack.
“After 40 years, the Islamic Republic of Iran has failed to fulfill its promises to uphold and safeguard the rights of its citizens,” Bolton tweeted Monday morning. “The 40th anniversary of the Iranian regime only serves to highlight four decades of failure and broken promises.”
He followed up with a second blast four hours later.
“It’s been 40 yrs of failure,” Bolton tweeted. “Now it’s up to the Iranian regime to change its behavior, & ultimately up to the Iranian people to determine the direction of their country. The U.S. will support the will of the Iranian people, & stand behind them to ensure their voices are heard.”
In an anniversary celebration in Tehran on Monday, Iranian President Hassan Rouhani took his own defiant stand against the United States, CNN reported.
“Today we are the target of a psychological and economic war,” he said, the news outlet reported. “Enemies who seek to belittle us, we must resolve these problems with one another. With the assistance and the help of one another . . . we will be victorious in the face of America.”
